Birthplace of Nagatani Soen New Tea Festival

May.14.2018

An event where you can fully appreciate new tea from this year’s sprouts, the New Tea Festival is held at the home of Nagatani Soen, a revered figure who invented the Japanese method for producing green tea in the middle of the Edo period [1603 to 1868]. Participants can gain a number of unique and valuable experiences, including tea-picking, simple tea manufacturing by processing the new buds they have just picked, and eating a dish of “cha-meshi” rice made with steamed tea leaves, among others. If the weather is nice, a café may even appear in the middle of the tea plantation! We hope you will enjoy the appeal of tea to the fullest as you ponder on history.
